Couple robbed in guesthouse

A man armed with a knife broke into their room while they were sleeping

A Johannesburg couple were robbed after a knife-wielding attacker broke into their 6th Avenue, Summerstrand, guesthouse at about 1am on Monday.
According to police, the 25-year-old and his 19-year-old girlfriend were sleeping in the room when a suspect broke in.
Police spokesman Captain Johan Rheeder said the attacker had climbed into the bedroom through an unlocked window.
“When the man got up to close the window, he was confronted by the suspect inside the room. The suspect threatened to stab them if they made a noise,” he said.
“He then stole a cellphone, handbag and Euros before fleeing.”
Rheeder said the alarm was raised as soon as the suspect fled and the handbag was found dumped in the garden.
“No one was injured during the robbery,” he said.
In recent months, several guest houses and bed and breakfasts have been targeted by robbers.
In September, two people were robbed by gunmen who broke into their room at a guest house along the R335 in Addo.
In August a couple in their 80’s from Cape Town were robbed and assaulted while staying at the same guest house.
Also in August, a couple visiting Nelson Mandela Bay for the Isuzu Ironman 70.3 World Championship were robbed in their guesthouse in Chelsea.
Earlier this year, clients staying at several other guest houses in the Bay had also been robbed.
In most cases, the guests were not injured during the robberies.
All the cases of robbery are still under investigation.
