Christening robe has been in family for 300 years

A CENTURIES old family heirloom made a brief appearance at a baby girl's christening in Port Elizabeth yesterday before being safely packed away until her children are christened one day.

Lexi Jade Barendse, who turns six months this week, was on her best behaviour when 30 family members and close friends made a turn at St Mark's Congregational Church in Framesby North to witness her christening.

The robe she wore for the occasion added a little something special, as it has been in her family for more than 300 years.

For 11 generations, the handmade robe has been a trusted family friend at christenings.
