Dawn Rogers named as ACDP candidate for by-election

Property consultant Dawn Rogers has been named as the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) councillor candidate for the ward 2 by-election taking place on March 6 in Nelson Mandela Bay.
The position became vacant after former DA ward council lor Dean Biddulph resigned to pursue other interests.
On Thursday, the ACDP announced Rogers, 54, as its candidate, saying she was a respected member of the community who served and put the needs of others first.
Rogers said wanting to see real improvement and real change in the metro had motivated her to run for the by-election.
She vowed to clean up the community, address the policy changes concerning student accommodation, ensure Bayworld was upgraded, improve lighting and security along the beachfront and address various taxi rank issues, including beachfront parking.
“I believe the ACDP can make a real difference. Therefore I hope people will give the ACDP a chance as we are a community focused party.
“We’ve got a good track record with all the good work councillor Lance Grootboom has done in his position as mayoral committee member of public health.”
Ward 2 covers South End, parts of Humewood and Summerstrand and Forest Hill.
Grootboom, who occupies the party’s only seat in council, said the party had a very good chance of winning as its numbers had increased with each by-election they had contested.
Grootboom said: “We’ve got a strong candidate who understands the issues and people have been impressed by our policies, especially Christians who appear to not be able to relate to the decisions of the DA.”
