Teens among arrests in gang-related cases



At least five suspected gangsters – including two teenagers – have been arrested since Monday.
Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu said three people, aged between 26 and 33, were shot, sustaining multiple gunshot wounds, just after midnight on Tuesday.
The three victims were welcoming in the New Year in Denson Street, Bloemendal. An immediate investigation resulted in the arrest of a 16-year-old.
He was charged on three counts of attempted murder and appeared in the Nerina House juvenile court on Tuesday.
At about 7.15pm on Tuesday, Ruwaan Jordaan, 18, was shot at by an unknown man in Old Stanford Road. He died later in hospital.
A 30-year-old suspect was later arrested at a house in Leith Street, Helenvale.
On Monday morning, the Provincial Gang Investigation Unit arrested four suspects, including a 16-year-old, wanted in various cases of murder and attempted murder in the Bethelsdorp and Gelvandale areas.
