Police personnel trapped in lift after fall

Police personnel were reportedly trapped in a lift which fell from the 4th floor at the Mount Road Police station in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday afternoon (22/03/17).

According to police, seven occupants, one male and six females, were trapped inside at the time of the incident.

While officials attempted to open the lift, an ambulance was seen entering the premises.

Four of the occupants sustained fractures to the legs while the others were treated for various other injuries.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Eastern Cape Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga expressed her shock with the incident and conveyed best wishes and a speedy recovery to the injured employees, the police statement read.

Ntshinga added that a "thorough investigation" will be conducted into the incident.
