Goods valued at over R750 000 recovered from Hankey home

Several boxes of goods valued at over R750 000 were recovered by police from a residential home in Hankey following a hijacking last night.

It is alleged that the driver of a Nissan truck and trailer was en route to East London with a delivery when the truck was pushed off the road close to Port Alfred by a silver Toyota Corolla with six armed men in the vehicle.

The suspects took control over the truck and drove off with it and the load towards Hankey.

Meanwhile the driver of the truck was pushed into the Corolla and the suspects dropped him off in the Main Road of Despatch later in the night.

The suspects downloaded the goods at a home in Splinter Street, Hankey and afterwards drove back in the direction of Port Elizabeth.

Police members in Uitenhage recovered the abandoned truck on the Rocklands Road, outside Uitenhage. After thorough investigations, members from the Port Elizabeth Hijacking Task Team set out for Hankey and with the assistance of SAPS Hankey the recovery was made.

Several boxes containing biscuits, coffee, chips and other groceries, worth more than R750 000, were recovered.

Newly-appointed Humansdorp Cluster Commander, Brigadier John le Bok, commended the team for the successful recovery of the stolen property and said: “Let us keep up the good work in our strive to combat crime and ensure a safe and secure environment for all.

We will  follow up on all leads and gather crucial evidence that can link the suspects to the crime”.
