Jayde murder accused in a coma, hospitalised

One of the suspected hitmen accused of kidnapping and murdering Jayde Panayiotou in April last year is in a coma.

State advocate Marius Stander said Sizwezakhe Vumazonke was admitted to Livingstone Hospital last month, after he claimed he was so ill he could barely stand, he is currently in a coma. He is under police watch.

Stander says he is waiting on the results of a toxicology report.

The cause of Vumazonke's illness is not known.

Pre-trial proceedings, scheduled to kick off in the Port Elizabeth High Court on Monday morning, was accordingly postponed to September 15.

Vumazonke is accused alongside Jayde's husband, Christopher Panayiotou, and suspected hitmen Sinethemba Nemembe and Zolani Sibeko.
