Cops refuse to have wool pulled over their eyes

Sharp-eyed traffic cops were simply not going to have the wool pulled over their eyes on Saturday when they spotted a taxi crammed with 31 sheep driving around Jeffreys Bay.

Suspecting that the animals had been stolen, the Humansdorp traffic cops were immediately hot on the tails of the 31 sheep.

They followed the vehicle to Port Elizabeth where, together with police, they pulled it over in Kabega Park.

Two men, aged 45 and 50, were arrested. Fourteen of the animals had already suffocated to death while 17 others were transported to Kareedouw by members of the stock theft unit, police spokesman Warrant Officer Basil Seekoei said yesterday.
