IEB exam glory for East Cape schools

HUNDREDS of Eastern Cape private school pupils who sat for the Independent Examination Board (IEB) matric exams this year have excelled, with three of the province’s schools home to some of the country’s top achievers.

The trio of schools in the province which had pupils in the IEB outstanding or commendable category were Woodridge College outside Port Elizabeth, Grahamstown’s Diocesan School for Girls (DSG) and East London’s Merrifield College.

A total of 543 pupils from 14 schools in the Eastern Cape sat the IEB exams, with the results released at midnight, ahead of the release next week of the Education Department’s matric results which will be published in The Herald on Tuesday.
