Gang violence claims another life

JUST hours after a bloody rampage left a father dead and three wounded in Port Elizabeth's troubled northern areas at the weekend, a young man was shot dead in the continuing gang violence.

Following the attack in Helenvale's Leith Street on Sunday in which bystander Albert "Rooibaard" Mitchell, 57, was shot dead and three men injured, a 24-year-old man was gunned down in Bethelsdorp.

According to police spokesman Warrant Officer Alwin Labans, Nigel Moko, from Arrowgrass Street, was sitting outside his house with two friends at 9.20pm when a car pulled up and shots were fired, hitting Moko in the head.

Labans said Moko died at the scene. His friends escaped unharmed. - Alvené du Plessis
