Polony 'thief' off the hook – for now – after guilty plea by imposter

A HUMANSDORP man was unfairly convicted of stealing a roll of polony after an imposter took to the dock and pleaded guilty on his behalf.

The conviction was brought under review to the Grahamstown High Court, where it was ultimately set aside last week.

Dawid Swart, who was in court on January 30 for a more serious offence, opted to take to the dock when Edgar Eyman's petty theft case was called. - Kathryn Kimberley
