Bhisho steps in to resolve admissions crisis in Bay

POLITICIANS from Bhisho have stepped in to try and resolve an admissions crisis in Port Elizabeth's northern areas where scores of children were turned away from the few schools there, all of them too full to cope with the influx.

Residents met with MPLs Christian Martin and Dennis Neer yesterday at the Helenvale Resource Centre and said their children had also been turned away from schools in the northern areas because they were "too poor".

A Bhisho delegation, of which Martin and Neer are part, is in Nelson Mandela Bay to troubleshoot as well as monitor problem areas.

A tough-talking Martin said the government had an obligation to educate children 16 and under, but strongly advised parents whose children were older to consider further education and training (FET) colleges.
