Another major drug bust in PE

Another significant drug bust has been made in Port Elizebeth this week after police swooped on a house in Humewood.
The house in Cranwell street was raided last night following a tip off.
The entire house including the garage and a Wendy house was searched.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana said 16 bags of mandrax tablets – a total 13 347 individual pills – as well as more than R100 000 in cash and a cellphone were seized in the raid.
It is alleged the drugs arrived from Khayalitsha on Thursday morning, Kinana said.
In a statement, Eastern Cape police commissioner Lieutenant-General Liziwe Ntshinga said police would stop at nothing in crippling the drug trade.
“Drug related crimes have no boundaries and there is no higher calling than defeating drug traffickers that threaten the rule of law and undermine the well-being and welfare of our people,” Ntshinga said.
“I commend the police officers on the sterling arrests and, had it not been for their excellent relationship with the community, these criminals would still be going about pursuing their illegal trade.”
Five suspects, a couple and their three children, who have been arrested, are expected to appear in the Port Elizabeth magistrates court on Monday.
On Monday the Hawks, in conjunction with other police units, seized cocaine with a street value of over R700-million on-board a ship at the port of Ngqura.
It’s believed the massive haul, which came from Brazil, was destined for India and Singapore.
