Put people first, public sector told

DEPUTY President Cyril Ramaphosa has warned public servants to be on their best behaviour this month.

"They are not going to be corrupt. They are not going to steal our money. They are going to put our people first," he said.

Ramaphosa was speaking at the launch of Public Service Month at Maponya Mall, Soweto, yesterday.

The government has prioritised an efficient public service as one of the important pillars to achieve its goals in the National Development Plan, the country's blueprint to the year 2030.

For years the public service has been plagued by inefficiency, corruption and bad service because of poor management .

"We need to revitalise the Batho Pele programme. We need to go back to the basics. We need to put our people first, treat them with respect and address their needs," he said. - Nomaswazi Nkosi
