ANOTHER successful PAHS Supporters Club six-a-side cricket tournament saw team Poena take the cup on Sunday, after beating Sky Alarms in the men's final.

The annual event is a fundraiser for the Supporters Club, with all money this year going towards buying a new school bus.

The tournament allows 20 teams to take part, and a women's section was included for the first time this year.

The response was so good some late entries had to be turned away, said PAHS sport coordinator Craig Robertson, who helped organise the event and kept score.

Ultimately 14 men's teams and six women's teams competed in the round robin tournament.

As well as taking the ladies' cup, the PAHS Supporters Club were also named best-dressed team.

"We had awesome support, the weather was great and the camaraderie was good,” said Robertson. "Families came to watch their loved ones play and many made a day of it.”

Chairman of the Supporters Club, Jacques Botha, said the event raised R10 000, bringing the total they have raised for the school bus to R90 000.

They need R296 000 to buy a new Quantum.

"I know some people brought their own booze and their skottels, but the whole point is to support the school so we hope in future the message gets across for people to buy their drinks from the clubhouse and buy the hamburgers and boerewors rolls we have on sale,” said Botha.

The event was sponsored by Pennypinchers and Kowie Toyota.
