Police trailer for hotspots

RESIDENTS in Kwazakhele will now have easier access to police services after a dedicated police trailer was handed over to the local police earlier this month.
The mobile trailer serves as a place where residents can report crimes. It will travel to high-crimes areas in the hopes of reducing crime.
The residents who were at the hand-over of the trailer were very excited about the prospect of having a trailer that would make reporting crimes easier.
Municipal worker Nokwanele Sume said, as a street sweeper, she was often in the streets very early in the morning.

"I was recently robbed of my wedding ring and phone while on my way to work. We are not safe, so I am very happy about the trailer.”
Nomfusi Matya agreed.
"This is a good move – at least now we will feel safe walking to the shops and ATMs,” she said.
The trailer was made possible by Edcon who, with other sponsors, handed over the crime prevention trailer to SAPS officials at the Njoli Square in Kwazakhele.
Edcon Group CSI manager, Innocentia Buthelezi, said they wanted to make a difference in communities.
"The fight against crime is an ongoing struggle with no ending,” Buthelezi said.
"We are confident that through the presence of the trailer, crime in hotspot areas will decrease – and bring the police closer to the people.”
SAPS provincial commissioner Major-General Mark Magadlela appealed to the community to assist them.
"We are turning the tide against crime, but we are not there yet. We need the community's support,” he said.
"The trailer will move around Kwazakhele, making sure it covers all the crime hotspots.”
Community Policing Forum (CPF) deputy chairman , Sonwabo Nosilela, said: "I am so happy to see the businesses we support, supporting us.
"Hopefully by the end of the year the crime level would have dropped, but we as a community need to work with the police.”
Xoliswa Xhuma said: "Now we do not have to walk all the way to the police station, where you do not always get the help you need.”
The trailer will be in various hotspots in the five sectors within the Kwazakhele police sector which will be manned at various times by police officers.
