Irrigation equipment needed
THE Ward 7 office has bought cricket equipment of R17000 from its discretionary fund.
This follows a request from residents of the Allan Hendricks flats for assistance to start a street cricket league.
This is an initiative to provide sport facilities for the youth in an area where very few sports amenities exist.
Illegal dumping is a very big problem in the entire area. Previously the waste department used to clean the area every six weeks, but budget restraints will now restrict this even more and illegal dumping areas will only be cleaned every three months.
This is out of the councillors' control – residents will simply have to watch the dumpers!
I am very happy that some of the teachers at Patterson High School have started several initiatives to revive the central role that schools should play in the community.
Recently they organised a fun run/walk for Freedom Day, as well as a two-day 20/20 format cricket tournament.
The Ward 7 office managed to obtain a R500 donation to buy small prizes for the children. My grateful thanks to Desais Wholesalers who stepped in without hesitation when I approached them for their donation.
Long may this initiative from the Patterson High teachers continue! This is exactly what the youth in the area need.
The Moore Dyke Sport field in Schauderville has taken a hammering recently as it has been intensively used by many sporting codes.
In conjunction with the NMBM sports and recreation department we have managed to effect several small improvements on a shoestring budget.
The groundsman, Neil, is doing sterling work but we need more support. The biggest need is for irrigation equipment to water the fields properly.
One of the top amateur soccer clubs, Hotspurs, is based here and is an asset to the area with an excellent youth development programme.
The need for irrigation equipment is dire, we are looking for sponsors! Please assist us.
