Alleged bottle store theft

ROB KNOWLES

THE case against six prominent members of the community for the alleged theft of about R80 000 worth of liquor from the Tops bottle store in Campbell Street was postponed again in the Port Alfred Magistrate’s Court last week.

The case against FNB consultant Phumezile Rolo, Ward 10 committee member and former Santa TB Hospital administrator David Willy, former manager at Absa Mthuthuzeli Pikoli, former Old Mutual employees Kabelo Moahloli and Nosicelo Yanta and Thandile Saki was first heard on November 14.

The six were further accused of working together with former store security guard Mbolelo Xamise, and the check-out clerk, Lorima Willie, who were both granted bail of R300 at their first court appearance.

After a number of postponements, initially to allow the prosecution to watch the video footage and, later, to allow time for the defence to do the same, the eight appeared briefly in court on Monday when the case was postponed until the next day.

On Tuesday prosecutor Paul Rossouw recommended to magistrate Louis Muller that the case be postponed until April 24 when the trial will begin.
