Royals charm Grahamstown pupils


THE usually quiet streets of Grahamstown were a hive of activity yesterday as parents, pupils, teachers and royalists gathered at different venues to welcome the Earl and Countess of Wessex – Prince Edward and Princess Sophie – who were in town to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the President's Award.


The British royal couple, on a tight schedule, visited schools and youth groups involved in the programme before attending a gold awards ceremony, with awards issued to young people in South Africa who have achieved the stringent requirements of the President's Award Programme.
