Kids learn about diabetes at camp

EMPOWERING youngsters to manage their diabetes was the name of the game this week when children from across the province descended on Port Elizabeth to take part in a camp with a difference.

Boys and girls between the ages of 10 and 18 met on Wednesday for a three-day diabetes holiday camp held at the Pine Lodge Resort.

Provincial coordinator for chronic diseases Tembinkosi Nyamakazi said the camp would make a difference in the lives of each of the 58 children who had attended it.

"The aim is to provide the children with an understanding of the disease, which allows them to empower themselves in terms of managing the disease instead of fearing it," Nyamakazi said.
