PORT Elizabeth television personality and international model Marius Roberts will chalk up a hat-trick of Imperial Auto Celebrity Challenge appearances on the Toyota Kalahari Botswana 1 000 Desert Race, round three of the Donaldson Cross Country Championship, from June 26 to 28.

Now in its fourth season, the Celebrity Challenge gives celebrities from the sports and entertainment worlds the opportunity to experience at first hand the drama and excitement of national cross country racing. At the same time the challenge has played an increasingly important role in marketing the Donaldson series

. Roberts, a former pupil at Alexander Road High School, will again co-drive for Regent Racing team principal Terence Marsh in a Nissan Navara competing in Class T in the Production Vehicle category. Marsh is a former national Special Vehicle champion and professional cricketer.

Roberts made his first appearance alongside Marsh in the Imperial Auto Celebrity Challenge at the RFS 450 last year, and was back for more at the RFS Endurance at the start of this season.

A self-confessed “petrol head”, Roberts is a cousin of former South African saloon car Mike Briggs.

“Marius and I had the misfortune to retire from both the RFS races, and we have some unfinished champion business,” Marsh said. “He is determined to win a finishers’ medal, and what better event to accomplish that than the Desert Race.” -Bobby Cheetham
