Holiday vibes at popular complex

THE Boardwalk at the Port Elizabeth beachfront is ideal for families seeking to enjoy leisure pursuits together at this time of year.

It's always buzzing at summertime and is right by popular Hobie Beach, where you can nip off for a swim before or after your visit.

The Lighthouses complex is a popular spot for families to try their hand at ten-pin bowling. The centre is open seven days a week from 9am to 10pm, but stays open till 11pm during the summer holidays.

There are pool tables and a bar for adult patrons, which currently stays open until just after midnight.

Ten-pin bowling is suited to anyone five years and up. The cost is R31.50 per game for under-18s and R41.50 per game for adults. Each game consists of 20 balls and 10 frames.

The Boardwalk's adventure putt-putt course, featuring nine holes, is another popular activity for all ages.

It is situated next to the amphitheatre at a cost of R25 per player. A refundable R25 deposit is also payable for balls and clubs.

A relatively new feature to keep children entertained is Edupuppets, which includes puppet making along with a puppet show featuring a variety of interesting characters. It runs daily at the venue between Wimpy and Fischers from 11am to 4pm until December 31.

The cost is R20 per child to make a puppet, or R30 per child for the show and puppet making.

Little adrenaline junkies in the making can head to the mini racetrack with go-karts run by The Magic Company. The cost is R45 for five laps.

Should parents feel like a bit of downtime sans the kids, they can leave the little ones in the safe hands of staff at Kids' Corner, where there are fun activities as well as gaming consoles daily. The cost is R16 per hour; children aged 19 months to 12 years may play for a maximum of four hours, while those under 18 months may play for only two hours.

On these balmy summer nights, do not forget the magical water fountain display on the Boardwalk Lakes which may be viewed daily at 7.30pm, 8.30pm and again 9.30pm until December 31.
