Blawa Butchery cut above the rest

BLAWA Butchery in New Brighton's Mendi Street is a one-stop shop when it comes to sizzling socialising and entertainment.

The popular shisanyama has a full lineup of entertainment for the festive season.

Blawa attracts top politicians, businesspeople and ordinary people.

Owner Zola Yeye said they mainly promote local talent on Sundays.

"We not only serve cosmopolitan dishes that cater for everyone, but we also have lots of different kinds of entertainment."

And, if you're not squeamish and appreciate a lekker local delicacy when you see one, there are beautifully cooked sheep's or pig's heads to feast on. Blawa has poetry sessions on Wednesdays with poets such as Lelethu Poetic Soul Mahambehlala. Karaoke is also popular, and many folks choose Blawa for birthday celebrations as it is a family-orientated spot, Yeye said.

"On weekends people can come in with their cooler boxes and enjoy soccer while listening to good music. On Fridays we play commercial house, on Saturdays we have R&B and on Sundays we have soul sessions," Yeye said.

Blawa opens at 8am and usually closes at 9pm during the week, though at this time of year the hours are very flexible.
