VANESSA Kasperski is resident agent at Gamtoos Mouth Resort for Linmere Real Estate. She has seen increased property sales in recent months and more interest from buyers.
Gamtoos Mouth Resort overlooks the river and the sea towards Jeffreys Bay and is 60km from Port Elizabeth with excellent access from the N2 at the Hankey offramp.

How long have you been in the property market? Fifteen years. I have been the resident agent at Gamtoos Mouth Resort since its inception in 1998. We have sold 431 plots since then and many resales have taken place.
What made you decide to become an estate agent and what did you do before entering the profession?Chance and opportunity. I was a farmer's wife before that, but started out in human resources.
What qualifications do you have?BA honours in industrial psychology. More recently, I qualified in NQF4 and PDE4.
What is the most frustrating part of being an estate agent? Arranging finance for purchasers.
What has been the most satisfying experience you have had as an estate agent?The satisfaction of finding the right property for a client and doing a good deal for all parties.
What advice would you give to first-time buyers with regard to affordability and the best buy? First-time buyers should weigh up options of buying a house and upgrading when they can, or buying a plot and building their dream home.
What advice would you give to ensure they don't lose their property due to interest rates? Don't buy what you can't afford.
Move or improve: what is the best option?It depends on the situation. Improve is a good option, but both have pros and cons. Building costs are high these days, but clients are quite choosy about their needs and we don't always find houses to suit. Be careful of overcapitalising on a property when renovating.
What do you specialise in?We specialise in selling property at Gamtoos Mouth Resort, where we market property (houses and plots) for holiday homes, retirement, permanent living away from the hustle and bustle and for investment.
In which area can one find bargains when looking for options to buy?Gamtoos is the ideal country/coastal gated community at affordable prices.
It is situated on the lagoon and sea and offers activities such as fishing, beach and bush walks, canoeing and other watersports.
Do you give advice on obtaining a bond?I advise buyers to consult a professional bond originator.
Buying or renting: which is the better option at present and why?It is a good time to purchase as it is a buyer's market. It is also an investment with capital appreciation.
Do you feel that the property market has turned the corner?We have seen more interest from buyers and an increase in sales.
What do you do to relax?I love reading, gardening, walking on the beach and the hiking trails we have at Gamtoos Resort. I enjoy staying at Gamtoos as I love the peace and quiet, yet really enjoy my job showing prospective buyers around the resort.
