Body shop facility has been added to the FAW plant in Coega, which was opened less than a year ago.

Now able to build its own truck bodies, FAW Vehicle Manufacturers SA (FAW SA) – which employs 400 people in the country – has created 20 new jobs at the Coega body shop.

This employment figure could grow as the demand for truck bodies direct from the FAW plant grows.

The body shop, adjacent to the assembly building, was erected with the rest of the plant in the Coega industrial development zone (IDZ) last year, but only became operational last month.

FAW SA chief executive Yusheng Zhang said the first tipper bodies had been built from semi-knocked-down (SKD) packs imported from the parent plant in China.
