Ramphele a welcome addition to DA ranks

AS a member of the old guard who has been involved with the DA and all the changes it has gone through since the Prog days, I would like to welcome Mamphela Ramphele to the ranks as our presidential candidate. Just imagine what this country could achieve under a president of her experience in health, education, economics and international affairs, but above all, her strong moral compass.

We have many excellent leaders in the DA but none with her uniquely varied qualifications and experience.

I realise the membership of Agang may not be too happy, but so much more can be achieved for the country in some form of combination. I have not seen the Agang manifesto but with Ramphele at the helm I doubt it can differ much from the principles laid out in the DA manifesto.

One can only celebrate the bringing together of like principled people whose main aim is to save South Africa from the mess it has slid into under such corrupt and inept ANC leadership. I dearly hope that the Agang membership will accept the guidance of their leader and know that they will be truly welcome in the DA.

Practically, so much more can be achieved by an alliance of like minded people.

I am sick of the racial slurs constantly hurled at the DA. Look at the DA rank and file and you will see it is truly a party for all who are tired of corruption and misgovernment, who long to see this country achieve its great potential.

Look at Cape Town – recently voted the top tourist city in the world – and see what comes with good governance.
