Poison case: MaNtuli appeals to Shamila Batohi

Lawyers for the estranged wife of former president Jacob Zuma have appealed directly to new prosecutions boss Shamila Batohi for a decision on whether she will be charged with attempting to poison him.
In a letter sent to Batohi on behalf of Nompumelelo Ntuli-Zuma this week, attorney Ulrich Roux said she “from the outset made it clear she is not aware of, nor in any way involved in, an alleged conspiracy to murder Jacob Zuma”.
“This matter has been hanging over my client’s head since June 2015.
“In four years, the South African Police Service and the National Prosecuting Authority have seemingly made no progress pertaining to any further investigation being conducted herein and whether there is merit or substance in the allegations levelled against my client,” he said.
Ntuli-Zuma has joined a host of high-profile suspects to seek Batohi’s intervention in the prosecutions against them.
NPA head of communications Bulelwa Makeke confirmed Batohi had received Ntuli-Zuma’s letter and it was receiving attention.
