CDC warning on ‘jobs for sale’ scam

The Coega Development Corporation (CDC) has issued a stern warning to job seekers and fraudsters alike that no jobs at the organisation are for sale.

The organisation, which manages the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) at Coega among other initiatives, issued the warning this week after becoming aware that construction jobs overseen by the CDC were allegedly for sale.

“The Coega Development Corporation has, in the past couple of weeks, been made aware of social media messages that have been circulating about construction jobs that are allegedly being sold by people or persons in or outside the employ of the CDC purporting to be representing the CDC,” CDC spokesman Simlindele Manqina said.

He said the organisation viewed the allegations in a serious light. “The CDC would like to categorically distance itself from such and urge all those with information about this matter to contact the CDC via the following channels which include the toll-free anonymous tip-off line 080-000-7035, via e-mail at fraud@kpmg.co.za or via the website www.thornhill.co.za/kpmgethicslinereport/questionnaire/main,” he said.

Under no circumstances would job seekers be asked for any funds during its pre-recruitment and post-recruitment processes.

“Since one of our four values is integrity, we ensure that in all our processes we adhere to and promote good corporate governance, honesty, and transparent practices.

“Therefore, we have zero tolerance for fraud and corruption and the CDC would like to proactively encourage all its employees and broader stakeholders to report any such activities.”
