Slain domestic worker’s husband refutes murder witness theory

A Port Elizabeth mother of two who was gunned down outside her Kwazakhele home last week was buried today. Ntombizonke Dywili, 52, a domestic worker, was shot dead by an unidentified gunman last Wednesday. At the time, police spokesman Captain Andre Beetge said one of the theories being investigated was that the killer suspected Dywili might have seen the murder of Makaya Mdoko, 43, a few days earlier. But Dywili’s husband, Thozamile, 60, has refuted the claim that his wife witnessed a murder. “There was nothing of the sort. That statement was wrong and must be corrected. “My wife never witnessed any shooting incident,” he said. “I am grieving the death of my wife and this allegation does not make it easier for us as a family.

“We are not happy about these reports. I want to set the record straight.” Beetge this week admitted police were not 100% certain of their theory but had speculated. “The police’s speculation was, why would someone kill a domestic worker? “The attacker did not take any of her items. She lived [across] the road and we thought she might have witnessed the murder,” he said The motive for the shooting is still unknown and the police have yet to make an arrest. Dywili, who was fondly known as “Aunty Patty”, was walking from her house to a nearby bus stop when she was shot dead. Minutes after she left the house, her husband tried to call her but her phone went unanswered. He found her lying in the street later. There was a service for Dywili at the Old Apostolic Church in Makubalo Street, KwaZakhele at 10am. She was then buried at the Forest Hill Cemetery.
