Lobishe ordered out of board meeting after clash with Mfuleni

JUST months into its new term, the board of Nelson Mandela Bay’s prized entity, the MBDA, is embroiled in a bitter feud with the metro’s political head of economic development, Babalwa Lobishe.

The situation is so hostile that Lobishe was kicked out of the last Mandela Bay Development Agency board meeting by chairman Motse Mfuleni.

Insiders said she was booted out after she threatened to dissolve the board because some of its members were doing business with the municipality, which is illegal.

“At the last board meeting, she went there and said the meeting was not going to continue and she wanted to know who was going to resign. It was chaos,” one insider said.

“It became very heated and people were angry, and [Mfuleni] asked her to leave the meeting because she was causing an upset.

“Some members recused themselves from the meeting. It was ugly.”

Mfuleni said while there might be disagreements on certain issues, he did not believe there was tension between Lobishe and the board.
