Foreign owners cry: Why us?

Ethiopian worker shot dead in shop

A foreign shop worker was shot dead inside a Walmer township shop yesterday after he failed to give robbers more money than he actually had on him.

Ehiopian Temesgent Abmo, 36, died at about 10.30am.

Friends described how they raced to the Tawakal Supermarket in Bhabhatane Street minutes after the robbery and brought Abmo’s body into the road.

They had hoped to rush him to hospital – but he died at the scene.

Dalalo Aichamoe, 25, who left the shop just five minutes before the robbery, said: “I came back as soon as I got a call saying there had been a shooting. I ran into the shop and [Abmo] was lying on the floor.”

Police cordoned off the street while forensic teams searched for evidence.
