Meeting over fishing row

THE Eastern Cape Black Fishermen's Association met Department of Fisheries officials yesterday to discuss their grievances.

A week ago angry fishermen stormed the Fishery Compliance Office in Stanley Street, Richmond Hill, Port Elizabeth, throwing buckets of faeces onto the office floor while singing and dancing.

The association was unhappy with the slow transformation in the fishing industry and alleged fronting by other fishing rights owners.

But association chairman Xola Ngcangca said they met Ceba Mtoba, chief director of monitoring, control and surveillance, yesterday and the meeting was fruitful. - Yoliswa Sobuwa
