Now, all eyes on 2016 poll

ANALYSTS believe the results in the national elections could give a clear indication of what can be expected in local government elections in two years' time.

Both the ANC – support for which has declined significantly in the Bay since the 2004 national elections – and its closest rival, the DA, will have to battle for the hearts and minds of voters to win control of Nelson Mandela Bay in 2016.

The ANC has retained its majority in the townships but EFF has wiped out COPE and other smaller parties to become the second most favoured party in the townships and third biggest party in the metro after the DA. - Lee-Anne Butler and Yoliswa Sobuwa
