Family day at the races turns out a big success

PORT Elizabeth's Fairview racecourse celebrated Mother's Day yesterday with its biggest turnout in a decade, drawn by a ton of prawns, fab fashion and a fortune played on the horses.

The Recall East Cape Derby (Gr 3) – the eighth of nine races on the card – was the race day's star attraction, with Desert Swirl ridden by JMH Byleveld taking first place over the 2400m course. Races two to five took a further R350000 of the Derby's prize pot of R700000, with Richard Fourie on Glenton running in second.
