Son tells of hold-up 'trick'

A YOUNG man cut a lonely figure in the dock yesterday as he told a court how his father had influenced him to hold up a Seaview pharmacist with a toy gun.

Ernst Lottering, 20, was arrested alongside his dad, Ernst snr, in October on charges of kidnapping and pointing a firearm or anything that could lead a person to believe it is a firearm.

The 49-year-old father allegedly wanted to commit suicide and had ordered the frightened pharmacist to inject him with a lethal substance.

He reportedly told hostage negotiators he was disillusioned as the government was not treating those who were in the military fairly and he and his son could not find jobs.
