ARV rollout will hit 4.6 million in five years

THE government is planning to almost double the number of HIV-positive people receiving antiretroviral treatment to 4.6 million within the next five years.
This promise was made by president Jacob Zuma during his state of the nation address last night. Zuma also highlighted the government's success in providing antiretroviral treatment to 2.4 million people in 2013 – up from a million in 2009.
"The HIV/Aids turnaround is one of the biggest achievements of this administration and we are used as a model country by the United Nations Aids Programmes.
"Mother-to-child transmission of HIV has declined sharply and we have doubled the number of people who are receiving antiretroviral treatment," said Zuma.
