Reeva's mother will attend Oscar's trial

REEVA Steenkamp's mother will attend the trial in which Olympian Oscar Pistorius is accused of murdering her daughter.

June Steenkamp said she hoped this would bring "closure" to her family.

Reeva, 29, was gunned down by her double-amputee boyfriend at his luxury Pretoria East home on Valentine's Day last year.

Pistorius said he mistook her for an intruder.

The 27-year-old Blade Runner will stand trial for her murder from March 3.

In a statement yesterday, Reeva's parents, June and Barry Steenkamp, called for privacy ahead of the anniversary of their daughter's death on Friday.

"As [the anniversary of] our beloved daughter's death approaches, we would like to thank all family, friends, the people of South Africa, and the world for their compassion, kind words and comfort shown to us, and for the many letters of condolence we have received," they said.
