School in dark after electricity theft

TEACHERS at Walmer Primary School will have to start their records from scratch after an electricity blowout damaged their computers.

The school has been without electricity for two weeks after illegal connections in the area affected a transformer.

"We called people from the municipality and they came and said that there was a problem with the transformer.

"They changed the transformer but things just went from bad to worse when they tried to switch it on as it affected all our electrical equipment," the teachers said.

According to the teachers, who spoke on condition of anonymity, everything at the school has come to a standstill after the "izinyoka's [electricity thieves] from Airportville stole the electricity".
