It’s been two years since I wrote about our village school’s touching tradition — the one in which parents of grade 7 children read them inspirational letters as they embark on the rite of passage between primary and high school.

I never imagined that life beyond those primary school walls would explode into a global crisis, thanks to a pandemic, or that people — and circumstances — could change so radically, both inside and out...
