Fair moves to Fancourt

The 2018 Thousand Sensations Fancourt Craft Liquor, Food and Music Festival moves to its new venue at Fancourt Estate in George on Friday, having previously been held in Wilderness.
Visitors to the two-day event on Friday and Saturday September 21 and 22 can expect 26 craft beer breweries, seven craft artisanal distilleries, four wine cellar labels, 12 food stalls, one liqueur stand and some non-alcoholic craft drink stalls to boot.
All of this may be enjoyed at leisure in a combined tented area of more than 1,700m².
A line-up of 12 artists will ensure festival-goers rock to 18 hours of music.
There will be ample safe parking and public transport from bus service Go George.
“We use the words ‘craft liquor’ to include craft beer as the focus, but our festivals are complemented by craft gin, brandy, whisky, rum and liqueur. And do not forget the organic wines and garagistes,” event organiser Alewijn Dippenaar said.“The main objective was to consolidate the festival under one ‘roof’, even if it is a tented roof,” he said. “The growth of the festival over the last four years has required us to find a much bigger venue.”The organisers were grateful to Wilderness for helping to grow the festival into one of SA’s biggest “must attend” craft events, Dippenaar said.
The pre-event craft liquor and food pairings are back by popular demand, with three such events on offer. The first took place at the Views Boutique Hotel in Wilderness on Thursday.
The second, at 101 Meade Restaurant in George on Monday will host Robertson, Karoo Craft, Cape Mead and Triggerfish Breweries, as well as Houtbosch and Du Toitskloof Wine, with a twist of PANG Craft Liqueur and Qualito Craft Vodka.
The third will be hosted at Turnberry Boutique Hotel in Oudtshoorn on Tuesday.
The Thousand Sensations Fancourt Festival will run from 3 to 10pm on Friday and from 11am to 10pm on Saturday. Tickets are R80 a person (R140 for a weekend pass) and include a 100ml and 340ml glass. Tickets for children under the age of 18 are R40 each; kids under 12 get in  free.
Book online at www.ticketrush.co.za or buy your tickets at the venue on the day. For accommodation bookings, call Fancourt Estate on 044-804-0000 or contact the Outeniqua Tourism Association.
