Article helps find radiogram for play

The Bay is teeming with dusty old radiograms, it seems, with a good few kind Samaritans having come forward with offers to lend theirs to the production team of The Rise and Fall of Little Voice.
The Herald reported last Thursday that Pemads was desperately seeking such a piece of furniture for its upcoming production.
Many offers were received following the society’s appeal, and the radiogram they eventually settled on for next month’s production belongs to Tony Boyley, of Walmer.
Boyley received it from his aunt when she was downsizing at home a few years ago.
Loaning the radiogram would be putting it to good use, giving it a fresh purpose and providing a chance to show off its beautiful workmanship, Boyley said.
The play’s publicity co-ordinator Liz Yates, said the response following The Herald article had been wonderful.
“People showed we are not just named the friendly city,” she said, adding that people had called to ask if they needed any other props for the show.
“We are grateful to Tony, who offered to lend us something so sentimental to him.”
The radiogram prop plays an essential role in The Rise and Fall of Little Voice as this British play is about a girl who locks herself away in her bedroom to listen to her dead father’s record collection.
It opens on August 15 and will run until Saturday August 25.Tickets, at R80, will be available at Computicket from Wednesday August 1.
