Bay gospel group releases video

NELSON Mandela Bay gospel group Life Lyne has gone from playing for friends and family in a garage in Westering to winning several local competitions.

Yesterday they added the latest feather to their cap by releasing their debut music video, Where I Belong. It already had 153 views on YouTube in the afternoon.

The band, which found its roots in the Bethelsdorp Seventh-Day Adventist Church, is exposing gospel to a new audience.

The band's road to local stardom elevated rapidly after winning the Kingfisher FM Do You Rock competition in October last year.

The music video, produced by Port Elizabeth's Roof Top Productions, formed part of last year's grand prize, which included a photo shoot and recording a four-track album at the SABC's music studio in Port Elizabeth, the band's electric guitarist, Tim Hart, said.

"The music video was shot last year. It took one full day to complete. It was shot in Walmer and is aimed at bringing across the message that if you are with the Lord, you are where you belong, regardless of how lost or lonely you feel," Hart said.

"The progress we have made feels good. People from all around South Africa have contacted us to do gigs. We will be releasing our debut album with four tracks later this year."

The six-man band is made up of Wikus Prins (lead vocals), Ross Louw (drummer), Edwin le Roux (keyboard), Eon le Roux (acoustic guitar), Stanley le Roux (bass and vocals) and Hart (electric guitar). - Tremaine van Aardt
