WINNER of the first series of South African Idols Heinz Winckler is aiming to blow Nelson Mandela Bay fans away when he performs two shows in the metro next weekend.

The 36-year-old pop singer, who won the 2002 Idols competition, will perform at La Colline in Theescombe next Friday.

The show will move to the Barkly Street Theatre in Uitenhage the next day.

With two South African Music Award nominations behind him, in 2003 Winckler came fourth in the inaugural World Idol competition.

Speaking about the upcoming shows, the father of three young boys said: "It is a one-man production, and I aim to entertain and give an exciting performance."

He added that the show had changed quite a bit since the last time he visited the Bay.

His die-hard fans can look forward to songs from his latest album Jy's Bonatuurlik– released last year– and should also be prepared to be taken down memory lane.

Winckler, who hails from Somerset West in the Western Cape, will perform some of his greatest hits from his five previous albums.

Winckler's debut single, Once in a Lifetime, went double platinum, selling over 100000 copies.

"I know my fans always enjoy Can't Lose With You and Jakarandakoningin," he said.

Before hitting Bay shores, Winckler will make stops in Mossel Bay and Jeffreys Bay on June 11 and 12 respectively.

The singer's personal assistant and agent Marisa Odendaal said the show came about after Brenda van Rooyen from La Colline approached them. This move saw Winckler and his team decide on a four-day tour along the coast.

"We then thought it would be a great idea to have a four-day tour along the coast– from Mossel Bay to Uitenhage.

"Each song Heinz will perform has a story behind it, which makes the shows very interactive and engaging," Odendaal said.

Winckler's last performance in the Bay was at the Barkly Street Theatre in Uitenhage about two years ago.

Tickets are available at a cost of R120 from Brenda (La Colline show) on (041)379-5548 or 083-226-1038 and Sonette (Barkly Street Theatre show) on (041)922-0575 or 081-397-0227 - Balisa Ntloko
