Artistic view of child's journey to adulthood

THE Underculture Contemporary gallery in Park Drive presents a solo exhibition by award-winning Grahamstown-based multimedia artist Tanya Poole that explores human development and all that lies dormant within.

In The Becoming Child, Poole delves into the transition from childhood to adulthood in all its complexity and beauty. The exhibition opened at the gallery at 98A Park Drive last night and may be viewed until June 27.

In her dual role as painter and mother, Poole captured and shaped the process of her child's upbringing over a period of three years.

As her daughter grew, so did the scope of the exhibition – to include her child's friends and their adolescent understanding of their place in the world.

Combining traditional painting and video, the exhibition is in four parts: The Becoming Child, The Imaginary Audience, The Personal Fable and The Rehearsal. For gallery hours contact Cedric Vanderlinden on 082-887-1612.
