Luxury apartments breathe new life into Central

The image of Central is being revived. Thedmar, a restored apartment block in Clyde Street, offers luxury apartments and judging from the keen interest shown by the market, this is a winner.

Built in the 1950s Thedmar, a project of the Denton Property Group, has been transformed into the belle of the ball.

Marios van Dongen, managing director of Bowman Property Group who is assisting in the project ,said: "Denton Properties is seeking to revive the area by upgrading a block like this and letting it snowball to other blocks."

Port Elizabeth-based property brokers, Sarah van Remoortere and Ncumisa Ndlakuse, who are marketing the apartments, are excited to be involved in this project. Van Dongen said that they have seen a trend with the area once again attracting young professionals and families. Many other buildings are being upgraded in the area, including the Donkin houses.

The reaction at showhouse weekends has been very positive. Van Remoortere shared typical reactions from the viewing public: "Wow, the finishes are amazing."

When people walk into the apartments they are usually amazed by how nice they are inside, as they have a modern European touch to them. "They are unusually spacious for one bedroom apartments… with large doors and windows, giving a lot of light," Van Remoortere said.

Ndlakuse said the public was "mostly wowed by how modern and classy the apartments look. The stylish imported fittings and finishes are the main talking point and viewers are also impressed by how clean yet homely the units are".

Thedmar is branded as a "LIVESMART residence". It is modern, chic and secure and offers gated apartment living with remote controlled access and security alarms. Careful attention has been given to finishes. It offers LED lighting and laminate flooring throughout. Luxurious finishes abound, including marble and granite counter tops and window sills, soft close cupboards, imported Italian fixtures, built-in cupboards, sliding doors onto balconies and pay as you go electricity units.

The apartments vary in size from 38m² to 50m² and are realistically priced at R380 000 to R450000. Currently there are four parking bays, owned by the body corporate. There will be an opportunity to lease a parking bay on a turnaround basis so they are not permanently occupied by one person.
