Mbokodo Rise! on National Women's Day

New Brighton event celebrates young professionals in Nelson Mandela Bay

A Woman's Day event Mbokodo Rise! will pay tribute to the late Winnie Madikizela-Mandela at Relish International Restaurant in New Brighton on Thursday, August 9.
Sesethu Gqomo Communications is presenting Mbokodo Rise! for the second year, supported by the Mandela Bay Development Agency and NMB Business Chamber.
“This will be an uplifting morning of women celebrating each other, covering finance, beauty, relationships and what it means to be a woman in the 21st Century,” said Gqomo said.
She said the celebration would be “in the heart of New Brighton” to give guests the chance to enjoy African cuisine along with local arts and crafts from young entrepreneurs.
“Women’s Day has a deep symbolic reference in history, it speaks of a legacy much like the one of the late Mam’u Winnie Madikizela-Mandela who confronted untold hardships with an inner strength and fortitude,” Gqomo said.
“The dress code will be symbolic of her legacy, traditional or black attire with iqhiya [headgear].”
She said Mbokodo Rise! targeted young, professional women in the Bay.
“This is a vast demographic that isn’t tapped into as much as it should, so it will be a combination of entrepreneurs, civic leaders, corporate employees and artists.” all under one space.”
