Top honour for business school prof

NELSON Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) business school director Professor Steve Burgess has scooped an international award for outstanding contributions to marketing education.

He was recognised by the World Marketing Summit (WMS) last week.

The WMS annually brings together top marketing scholars and leaders from business, government and non-profit organisations to discuss important global problems.

Burgess serves on several international boards and has been recognised with several awards during his career.

He has worked collaboratively in several teams conducting research in 70 countries.

He said he was humbled by the award.

"[It] is important because it focuses on contributions to education, not just to research."

He said the award gave him and his team confidence that the business school was on the right track. After a rigorous audit it became the second school on the African continent to receive membership on the prestigious European Doctoral Programmes Association in Management and Business Administration (Edamba).

"We will move into Africa's first 4-Green Star rated business school before year-end. It will be the official benchmark for other construction projects in the country," Burgess said. – Herald Reporter
