Family sought as teacher’s body remains unclaimed

Port Elizabeth Mental Health is urgently looking for the family of former primary school teacher Mercia Cunningham.
Social worker at the organisation Bukelwa Mkalelwa said Cunningham had died at the age of 72 at the Algoa Frail Care Centre on December 19 and her remains had been taken to a state mortuary.
“We urgently need to find her family as we need permission to cremate her body,” Mkalelwa said.
“Mercia had previously worked for Woodridge Preparatory School in Thornhill and as a remedial teacher for Victoria Park Primary.
“She resided in Camden Court, Havelock Street in Central, Port Elizabeth, before she was admitted to the Algoa Frail Care Centre in Mission Road between 2011 and December 2018.”
Mkalelwa asked any family members or individuals with information about the family to contact it on 041-3650502.
