Farmer’s killers jailed for life

Two men arrested for the brutal murder of Alexandria farmer Riaan Scheepers were sentenced to life imprisonment by the Grahamstown High Court on Friday.
Siphamandla Petse, 24, and Bulelani Zozi, 21, were arrested shortly after beating – and ultimately killing – Alexandria cattle farmer Scheepers on his farm on his farm, Ficks, on November 25 2017.
Scheepers , 62, died in Greenacres Hospital about three weeks after the attack.
Both men were sentenced to life for the murder, 15 years for robbery, five years for burglary with the intent to rob, five years for illegal possession of a firearm and two years for illegal possession of ammunition.
Judge Clive Plasket said the attack had been violent and well-planned. “The house was under observation for a lengthy period of time until the opportunity arose to commit the crime,” he said.
