Impressive cricket performance from Graeme
Graeme College enjoyed success on the cricket field at the weekend. The first team visited Port Elizabeth and faced Victoria Park on a wellprepared pitch. The hosts won the toss and elected to bat, but lost wickets at regular intervals. They were not able to build big enough partnerships, and tight bowling seemed to build pressure on the batsmen. Sihle Mginywa (5/19) was the pick of the bowlers, along with Mark Amm, who went for 12 runs in his eight overs and took two wickets. VP were restricted to 103 all out, which meant that the Graeme batsmen could bat with a little freedom. In a clinical and mature approach, Chris Gleaves (48 no) and Nick Zimmerman (48 no) took Graeme to an impressive 10-wicket victory. The Graeme U15A side was just as impressive, making 206 for eight in their 50 overs. Aaron Richardson scored 53 and Shaun Botha 33. VP were bowled out for 86 with Lakhanya Sam taking 3/16 in eight overs to hand Graeme victory by 120 runs. The Graeme second XI scored a daunting 288, mainly thanks to Mijean Annandale scoring 87. In reply, VP could only manage 86, with Anda Solomon claiming 4/20 to help Graeme to a 202-run win. The U14A game was very one-sided after VP were bundled out for 37. Jayden Roesdorff did most of the damage (6/8) and Graeme went on to win by nine wickets. In the junior school games against Muir, Graeme also had the better of their opponents. Muir won the U13B match after Graeme had scored 145. Muir passed the score four wickets down. Graeme won the U11A match by 79 runs after scoring 129. Muir were bowled out for 50, with Marcus Williams picking up four for 10. Oliver Ripley dominated for Graeme U11B, scoring 31 after picking up 4/10 and restricting Muir to 55. Alizwa Jack returned 3/12 and Graeme won by nine wickets. Muir’s U13A side was bowled out for 64, with Dean van Heerden picking up 5/9, including a hat-trick. Lagon Oerson finished with 3/12. Graeme reached the Muir total with one wicket down. Lubabalo Tshongweni led his team to a nine-wicket victory with an unbeaten 34.
